The rest of the trip

So I didn't realize how much of our trip was actually included in the last blog. It was pretty much the whole thing. So here are a few pictures from the last 2 days. Read updated info at the end of this post.

We visited the Lincoln City museum and saw this random picture of birds. It reminded us of that creepy school house from "The Birds" that we saw. ...That's why I look scared....of the birds....

Yeah, the beaches were pretty cold and windy so I pretty much looked like this on every beach, but it was worth it!

The next morning we took Cosy on a walk to the tide pools and found some starfish on the rocks

Then she cut her foot and I carried her so she wouldn't get sand in the cut.

We found this really cheap, REALLY good beef jerky place just of the highway in Tillamook Oregon

The Tillamook Cheese Factory. If you know Tyler and I, you know we're crazy about our cheese. This place has free samples, a self guided tour of the factory, a gift shop and ice cream! It's what I always imagined heaven would be like....

Cannon Beach with Haystack rock in the background. Look familiar? These are the three rocks that the kid from Goonies has to line up in his little metal map-thingy. No, we didn't find the treasure, or a large bald scary guy.

That should say MaiTy 2009. Oh well, the background looks gorgeous! We really wanted the reflection on the wet sand, so we had to run in just after a wave left, write this really fast, and then run away fast too. I think this was pretty much one of the only beach where I just had my green sweatshirt on....


I may have already had a picture of this. Oh well. This is a shipwrek that's in a National Park called Fort Stevens. You can camp just down the road from this. It's HUGE, but this chunk is the biggest piece sticking out of the sand. There's no plaque (is this the right kind of plaque?) explaining dates or anything, but it's been here since Tyler was little. It's slowly sinking into the sand.


Here we are at the Astoria Column. You're supposed to be able to walk up a big spiral staircase in the middle of it and look out over all of Astoria, but it's being renovated. The view from up there was still pretty amazing.

This is the jail in the begining of Goonies. We were just visiting ;)

This house is right across the street from the jail. We're not sure, but we think it may be the museum where the Dad in Goonies worked. That tree is really that crooked. And there are two whole trees growing off the side of that tree. It's crazy.

And that's pretty much the end of our story. We spent that night at Ty's parents house, and drove all the way home the next day. We got home at 3 am and crashed. Yeah for vacations!!

Since we've been home, life has been getting back to normal. The semester ended and I input all my grades. I've been having to deal with student after student who just can't understand how they got the grade they did. Several have even gone to the head of the department trying to get their grades changed. It pisses me off that these students think they can go over my head. No one has had their grade changed, and I told the department head that I was pissed that students thought they could get higher grades by talking to him. I graded everyone fairly and equally, and there was a good percentage of A's in both of my classes. I'm SO glad that I'm done. I'm sick of dealing with students who want grades that they aren't willing to work for. I SO wish I could fail the ones with bad attitudes and give A's to the ones who really really tried hard. Bummer.

So classes have started again. I'm in math classes, which aren't too hard so far. I'm not expecting this excitement of understanding what I'm doing to last too long. I also get to start on my research, and I am really excited about that. I love doing research. Tyler is almost done with his thesis. Well, I guess the research part of it anyway. He hasn't really started on the writing, but he has to get going on that soon because deadlines are starting to creep up!

We're excited for another summer of school and fun. We're really glad we live in Spanish Fork, right near so many amazing natural sites!
